By far the most visually stunning character in the whole ‘Hunger Games’ franchise is, of course, Effie Trinket; the outrageously dressed capitol chaperone brought to life by Elizabeth Banks in every movie. And it seems some of that magic has rubbed off on Banks on the red carpet too.
Effie’s unique style doesn’t stop at the set of this movie series; Banks has been turning heads at events throughout the year in get-ups reminiscent of the role that brought her to international attention. Now that the series has finally ended with the box office smash hit ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’, we hope that Banks continues to work that weirdness. Here’s a few of our favourites:
Elizabeth Banks went for her favourite designer for ‘Love And Mercy’ photocall
In February, Banks rocked a deep red Elie Saab gown; a floor-length, long-sleeved dress bedecked in blood red jewels that stole all the attention at a photocall for Brian Wilson biopic ‘Love And Mercy’.
A summery number became her at the Butterfly Ball
She got as close as possible without raiding the actual ‘Hunger Games’ costume room to Effie’s iconic butterfly dress with her yellow/green Prada number that she donned at the appropriately named Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in June. It had the shimmer of Effie, with fewer accessories and an elegant calf-length hemline.
She didn’t forget the headpiece at the ‘Mockingjay’ Berlin premiere
Obviously, the perfect time to channel ‘The Hunger Games’ fashion is at the premiere, and she didn’t disappoint with her Berlin look. As well as another sensational A-line Elie Saab gown which this time saw a multi-toned floral design, she even went for a trademark Effie accessory – a headpiece! Albeit, it was a subtle touch; a gold-leaf styled crown that lay flat on her head rather than a huge fascinator.
When you can’t choose a colour, just wear them all!
The LA premiere was just as colourful. This time Banks opted for a close-fitting Dolce & Gabbana design featuring bold horizontal stripes and thousands of sequins. Conservative, yet chromatic.
Banks exterminated the runway in her Giulietta dress
At first glance, Banks’ Giulietta look from the VH1 Big In 2015 With Entertainment Weekly Awards looks fairly safe being a short, black number. A swift double-take later, you’ll notice the unusual cabochon embellishments covering the quilted pattern. It’s more Dalek than Effie Trinket, but still definitely worth a mention.
